Estate

Natural Beauty
We are fortunate to live and work in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Rancho Arroyo Grande is in the Central Coast region of California, just thirteen miles from the Pacific Ocean. The climate here is moderate due to the influence of the mountains and the nearby ocean.
The estate has thirty-five hundred acres of sloping hillsides, woodlands, pastures, olive groves and vineyards. We border the mountains of Los Padres National Forest. The topography is dramatic and the views everywhere are stunning. A few horses and cattle are scattered through the pastures. The place is isolated and unspoiled.
There is an abundance of wildlife here. Eagles, hawks and vultures soar overhead. Wild turkeys, quail and even feral peacocks run through the trees. Bears, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes and foxes roam the hills and woods. Deer are plentiful to the point of seeming commonplace. We cherish all the wildlife and we do not allow hunting.
History
Rancho Arroyo Grande began its recorded history as a Spanish land grant. In 1842 the governor of Mexico awarded the land to a Spanish soldier, a Soldado de Cuera named Zeferino Carlon. Sr. Carlon named the property Rancho Arroyo Grande, and we in turn have named one of our vineyards Zeferino in his honor.
