Rancho Arroyo Grande is located at the head of Arroyo Grande Valley, just 13 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Its 3,500 acres of sloping hillsides, woodlands, pastures and vineyards are bordered by the mountain ranges of Los Padres National Forest. The abundance of wildlife here – including bears, mountain lions, bobcats and wild boar – demonstrates the isolated and unspoiled nature of this place.
The climate here is moderate and uniquely suited to our vineyards due to the combined effects of the mountains and the coastal maritime influence. The soils here are exceptional. Evolved from uplifted ancient sea beds, the soils at Rancho Arroyo Grande abound with fossilized seashells – an attribute shared by some of the world’s great vineyards. Rich mineral content contributed by the fossil shells is the foundation for complex and interesting wines.
Named "Most Likely To Succeed" according to Tasting Panel magazine's Class of 2010 Most Outstanding Wine & Spirits of the Year.
The intention with the 2007 DF Zinfandel was to make a classic version of this variety. It was hand harvested, fermented 10 days on the skins and pressed to barrel while still fermenting to retain as much Zinfandel fruit character as possible.
